Alfred Charles “Charlie” Otto | Obituary

Charlie Otto, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 11, 2021 at his home in Singers Glen, Virginia.

Charlie was born on May 13, 1942 in Evanston, Illinois. He was the youngest son of the late Alfred H. and Rella G. Boigegrain Otto. Charlie graduated as a teacher from a local Wisconsin college on June 1, 1962. He then served his country in the United States Navy on January 27, 1964,

until January 26, 1970, where he won numerous service medals. Charlie’s last 40+ years have been spent in the Shenandoah Valley area.

For the past 20 years Charlie was self-employed and part-owner of Somerset, CJ Designs Inc. He and his wife Judy have comforted many families by providing residential homes and support for people with special needs.

As a gifted homebuilder and real estate developer, Charlie has spent many years making beautiful, custom furniture. Charlie also became skilled in leatherworking, creating exceptional Western accessories for the sport of “Cowboy Mounted Shooting”.

Passionate rider throughout his life, his passion for the sport led him to found the 1st Virginia CMSA, in the state of Virginia. He was the beloved and honored president from 2007 to 2013.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Judith “Judy” Otto; his brother, Paul Otto; Girls, Jill Hermann, Robin Kemper, Jessica “Jessie” Milam, Trina Otto; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Otto, and a great-granddaughter.

The local memorial service with Father John Baab will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, which he attended, on September 29, 2021, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow.

There will also be a Celebration of Life at the Sheboygan Yacht Club in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
