Are you looking for a good barbecue on the south side? Double A’s BBQ has what you want, and we had a chance to chat with the owner, Adrian Davila.
Davila owns and operates Double A’s BBQ, proudly serving as pitmaster. With over 20 years of sales and marketing experience, from selling M&Ms at Abraham Kazen Middle School to selling new home construction with the nation’s largest homebuilder, he knew what he was doing. needed to start a business.
He was born and raised in the southern part of San Antonio as the second eldest of eight children. It was there that he started cooking for his seven siblings, while watching his father on the barbecue.
Davila said, “I’ve always been in the cooking business, but I didn’t really find my passion until I discovered online and in-person barbecue classes during COVID-19.”
He graduated from South San High School and played college football at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif., and Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He ended his football career with two years of semi-professional football.
Davila left behind a six-figure salary to pursue his passion for grilling and smoking meats. When asked if it was easy, he replied, “If the road was smooth, everyone would do it.”
“You have to like the process. It’s excitement. Struggles are opportunities to learn and improve.
He is very proud of the overwhelming support he has received. One thing that sets him apart from others is his positive mental attitude. He learned to maintain a good attitude at all times, regardless of the situation.
He said, “I may look tall and responsible, but I promise I don’t bite. Just connect with me. Call me, text me or connect with me on social media. We, us, together.
For all new business owners, he says, “set a goal, achieve a goal!” You are going to have ups and downs. Everyone gets knocked down. It’s how you react and respond to adversity that makes you who you are.
The Double A barbecue will open on June 25th. It is located at 1107 Roosevelt Ave.
When it opens, hours are Saturday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or while supplies last.
There will be a few Double A’s BBQ signature dishes on the menu, including the “Double A’s Taco” which consists of brisket, bacon, beans, cheese and salsa in a flour tortilla, and the “Double A’s Mac Attack” which consists of a sliced beef dino rib on a bun, macaroni and cheese, sauce, pickles and onions.
