Inside Cornwall’s Famous Homes We All Wish We Could Buy

Cornwall is dotted with luxurious and spectacular properties. The county is hugely popular with celebrities and film crews thanks to its remote charms and scenic beauty.

We’ve all wished we had a glimpse of the luxury homes of the rich and famous, or the homes used for popular TV shows.

Just recently, actress Dawn French sold her former home in Fowey, which you can see below, for £6.6million, triple the price she bought it for in 2006. She has then moved to a “less cool and hip” corner of Cornwall and bought his new property. for £1,725,000. You can read more about it here.

In 2018 singer Will Young put his £615,000 Cornish farmhouse up for sale. The Pop Idol winner bought the property 15 years ago to “escape his demons and fame”.

The 400-year-old Grade II listed farmhouse was up for grabs for £615,000 after Young spent £70,000 refurbishing it. He said at the time: “It breaks my heart to leave, it’s so special and beautiful, you have to use it. It’s been a wonderful friend to me.”

Will Young said he was driven to buy the house to save his sanity and bought the property as soon as he saw it. Spending around £70,000 to renovate the house, which consists of a two/three bedroom farmhouse and a detached one bedroom barn, he transformed the St Breward home into his own haven.

Mr Young shared the scenic property, which has no close neighbours, with his two dogs Esme, a border terrier, and Nelly, a dachshund, as well as rescued moorland ponies.

Doc Martin’s surgery

Fern Cottage, Doc Martin’s medical practice and home on the ITV show, is probably Port Isaac’s most famous home. Overlooking Cornwall’s iconic harbour, it has been on screen for around 18 years. And, when not in use for filming, it is used as a vacation rental.

The cottage has two bedrooms, a rear garden and sea views and is currently on sale for £1.25million.

Poldark Farm

Another fictional character who has an incredible home is, of course, Poldark. In the BBC series, the character played by Aiden Turner lives in a quaint stone farmhouse called Nampara.

Although the interior shots were shot in the studio, the exterior of the house is a few miles from St Breward on Bodmin Moor. The property is called Ivey Farm and is privately owned.

Last year, Dawn French sold her stunning Fowey mansion which she had lived in since 2006. The Grade II listed property called Point Neptune overlooks the estuary of the River Fowey. It is located near Readymoney Cove.

It was built in the 19th century for William Rashleigh de Menabilly, a landowner and politician. In 2006 it was marketed for £2.8 million.

While there, the actress gave her fans a glimpse of her gorgeous home on social media. She shared photos of her gorgeous decor, white and dark gray kitchen, classic wood paneled walls and stunning artwork. You can see all the photos here.

Gordon Ramsay’s house

The Hell’s Kitchen superstar owns a mega mansion in Rock with jaw-dropping views that the family built from scratch after demolishing a 1920s house. Research by previously revealed that renovations had added £1.6 million to the value of his home.

The Ramsays bought Rock’s aging home for £4.4million in 2015 – the second most expensive sale on record in Cornwall at the time. It is now worth £6million, although that increase was to be expected as it has been completely replaced by a stunning new build.

Gordon's house has a large outdoor patio with several seating areas, including a circular stone table surrounded by wooden chairs, perfect for outdoor dining!

The original house was a five-bedroom property from the 1920s, but estate agents said the property needed updating. In July 2016, the 53-year-old chef won an eight-month battle to bulldoze the house. The TV chef has obtained planning permission from Cornwall Council to replace it with a main house and a second smaller property, known as ‘The Garden House’.

The main house has two kitchens and four en-suite bathrooms and two terraces overlooking the Camel estuary, while the smaller one has three bedrooms, a boathouse, a carport as well than a kitchen, a dining room and a living room. Gordon and his wife Tana added impressive extra features which cost £247,000.

The infinity pool cost £102,095.50, a wine cellar cost them £31,412 and the boat shop cost £116,337. Ramsay showed off the spectacular new pool this summer, posing for an Instagram photo with her son Oscar in front of the pool.

The Kaiser Chiefs frontman and former The Voice judge bought Stratton House in Falmouth in 2012 after falling in love with the town. He made many changes to the Grade II listed house.

The singer, 43, used his Cornish home, believed to have been built in 1797, as a haven from the pressures of fame.

“The sea air combined with the wooden shutters helps me sleep so well,” he previously wrote. told the Sunday Times. “There is a direct correlation between time spent in Falmouth and not being anxious.”

It was sold last year for around £1.5million. Wilson spent four years and £500,000 renovating the house, which is a stone’s throw from the town center and added a secret door to his library. You can read about it here.

Ricky also lowered the entire basement floor to create a two bedroom garden apartment. The house has been decorated with William Morris-style floral wallpaper and is dotted with antiques, heirlooms, Persian rugs and memorabilia from Kaiser chiefs.
