The outdoor project A space has been created to support the LGBTQIA+ community who feel unsafe, who are homeless or who experience “hidden” homelessness. A space to use and enjoy, it aims to meet the needs of users that other services may not successfully meet due to prejudices in society and in their homes. Centers like this are so vital, with recent research showing that over 30% of young homeless people in the UK are LGBTQ+[1].

Speaking about his involvement in the project, Johannes Radebe said in the press release: “Over the past two years, we have all come to appreciate our homes more. For queer people, a home is not always an environment. safe and so places like The Outside Project are invaluable resources, which is why I was thrilled to partner with MADE to create a warm and welcoming community center for all of its users.

The occupied space was teeming with functional and social resources, in a cluttered but characterful chaos. Now, with its new makeover, the space is also a soothing and inviting interior space with well-designed spaces for working, relaxing, reading and socializing.

Jesse Ashman, Head of Partnerships at The Outside Project, added, “We are so excited about the transformation of the space, I love the color and vibrancy that MADE and Johannes have injected. It was really important to all users of the community center that the center retain some of its original features while still feeling refreshed and welcoming, MADE and Johannes did just that.

This is such a beautiful and transformative project and Johannes and the MADE team have really gone all out for this community lifeline. Services like this are overstretched and underfunded with tight budgets having to focus on essential services, making an overhaul like this out of reach. This uplifting makeover will touch the lives of so many and facilitate the brilliant work the project is already doing.
